Description

Dr. Nelson graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine, finished his orthopedic surgery residency there, and completed his fellowship in pediatric orthopedics in San Diego. With inspiration from his grandfather, who served as a surgeon in Africa for many years, Dr. Nelson has dedicated a significant part of his career to humanitarian service. He and his family have served in the Dominican Republic, at Haiti Adventist Hospital (as first responder to the Port au Prince earthquake in 2010), and in the USA for a few years serving as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Loma Linda University. In 2014, he was nationally recognized for his humanitarian service by receiving the American Academy of Orthopaedic surgeons Humanitarian of the Year Award. In 2018 they returned to Haiti where Dr. Nelson serves as the medical director for Haiti Adventist Hospital (HAH). HAH is a teaching hospital which is training local and international doctors and nurses to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Scott and Marni’s dedication and passion for overseas service is making positive changes in the Adventist mission hospital system and is inspiring many others to get involved in effective ways. They have two sons, Chad and Alex.
